About
Two benches, one harbour, and no hurry.
Mast & Wax began with a dog that chewed through every lead in the shop. The fix was a length of cotton rope, an eye splice and a brass snap hook. The dog gave up first.
The rope bench is where we splice, whip and seize. We use undyed and dyed cotton rope because it is soft in the hand and kind to paws. A splice is stronger than a knot and it looks better, so we splice wherever we can.
The wax bench is where we pour. We use beeswax and a cotton wick, and nothing else. Each candle cures for two weeks before it is sold. It is slow. It is meant to be.
We sell online and at a harbour market stall on Saturdays from April to October. Same goods, same people, more weather.
We do not chase trends. We make a short list of things properly and keep making them.
